Rhum Barbancourt, the rhum of connoisseurs, will seek to “tame the hurricane” in the upcoming Tales of the Cocktail competition and festival. The Taming the Hurricane cocktail competition celebrates the hurricane, a New Orleans original that is now a staple in bars around the world. In addition, Rhum Barbancourt will also participate in the B.Y.O.B. Bring Your Own Barrel tasting on July 16 and host a snack stand on July 18 during the annual festival.

For the cocktail competition, base spirits must include at least one rum, passion fruit as a sweetening agent and a red color – one of the hallmarks of the hurricane. Bonus points will be awarded for crafting a drink that looks good in the signature curvaceous tall glass. Recipes are being submitted through April 24 with a winner announced on May 1.

The 12th annual Tales of the Cocktail festival takes place July 16-20 in New Orleans. At the B.Y.O.B. Bring Your Own Barrel tasting, July 16 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Hotel Monteleone, Rhum Barbancourt will be served neat along with education on the fine rhum for attendees. At the Rhum Barbancourt Snack Stand, noon-1:30 on July 18 in the hotel lobby, cocktails and spirits will be served along with paired food items. Rhum Barbancourt will showcase its 3 Star and Pango rhums in creative cocktails and 5 Star served neat.
